Introducing agent and attribution
Shopify

Shopify

Add a Shopify Custom Pixel that sends every completed checkout to Finseo, then attribute orders and revenue to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and other AI search engines.

Overview

What you get with the Shopify integration

Finseo connects to Shopify through a Custom Pixel under Settings, Customer events. The pixel subscribes to the checkout_completed event and POSTs the order ID, total price, currency code, and customer email to your Finseo project webhook. Shopify's checkout is sandboxed, so theme scripts never run there. The pixel does. Every order arrives in Finseo as a conversion and merges with a survey answer from Fairing, KnoCommerce, Zigpoll, or the Finseo storefront popup, so revenue is attributed to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews.

Use cases

What you can do with Shopify and Finseo

Real ways Shopify customers use Finseo to track and grow AI search revenue.

  1. 01

    Revenue per AI engine

Every completed checkout carries value and currency. Combined with a post-purchase survey answer, Finseo shows how much Shopify revenue came from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, or Gemini.

  2. 02

    Post-purchase survey merge

Run Fairing, KnoCommerce, or Zigpoll on the thank-you page. Finseo imports the answers and merges them with the pixel order by order ID, so the survey and the checkout become one attributed record.

  3. 03

    Storefront popup attribution

Add the Finseo Snippet to theme.liquid and ask shoppers on store pages. The answer merges with their later checkout via email, even if the purchase happens days later.

  4. 04

    AEO budget decisions

Compare AI search revenue against paid social and Google. Decide whether to invest in Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) based on orders, not on a hunch.

  5. 05

    Consent-safe tracking

The pixel checks Shopify customer privacy settings and skips checkouts without analytics permission, so attribution data stays aligned with your cookie banner and GDPR setup.

Why it matters

Why Shopify customers need AI visibility tracking

Shopify powers millions of stores, and more of their shoppers now arrive from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. These sessions often show up as direct or unassigned in analytics, so the revenue AI search generates is invisible. Because Shopify's checkout blocks external scripts, standard attribution snippets never see the order. A Custom Pixel is the officially supported way to capture checkout_completed, and Finseo turns that event into revenue per AI engine within seconds of the purchase.

How to connect

How to connect Shopify to Finseo

A few steps to wire up your Shopify account with Finseo. No code required.

  1. 01

    Get your pixel code

In Finseo, open Attribution, then Set up attribution, then Shopify. Copy the pixel code, which already contains your project ID and token.

  2. 02

Add a Custom Pixel in Shopify

In Shopify Admin, go to Settings, then Customer events, then Add custom pixel. Give it a name like Finseo Attribution.

  3. 03

    Paste and connect

Paste the pixel code, click Save, then click Connect. The pixel now listens for the checkout_completed event on every order.

  4. 04

    Set customer privacy

Set Permission to Required with only Analytics checked, and Data sale to not considered data sale. Checkouts without analytics consent are not sent.

  5. 05

    Add a survey and test

Install Fairing, KnoCommerce, or Zigpoll, or the Finseo Snippet in theme.liquid. Place a test order and check the Attribution dashboard within seconds.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Shopify

Answers to the most common questions about the Shopify integration.

Through a Shopify Custom Pixel under Settings, Customer events. The pixel subscribes to the checkout_completed event and sends the order ID, total price, currency, and customer email to your Finseo webhook URL. No Shopify app, no theme edit, and no third party connector is required for the order data.

Shopify's checkout and thank-you page are sandboxed, so external scripts including the Finseo popup cannot run there. Theme scripts only work on storefront pages. The Custom Pixel is the officially supported way to receive checkout_completed events, which is why Finseo uses it for the order.

Two options. A survey app like Fairing, KnoCommerce, or Zigpoll asks natively on the post-purchase page and Finseo imports the answers automatically. Or you add the Finseo Snippet to theme.liquid before the closing body tag so shoppers answer on store pages and merge with their later order via email.

The pixel sends respondentExternalId (the Shopify order ID or checkout token), dealValue (total price), dealCurrency (currency code, defaulting to USD), and respondentEmail. Finseo stores the order as a conversion and uses the order ID and email as merge keys for survey answers.

Yes. The pixel checks init.customerPrivacy and returns early if analyticsProcessingAllowed is false, so no checkout is sent without analytics permission. Set the pixel permission to Required with only Analytics checked and mark data sale as not considered data sale in Shopify.

Yes. Once orders and survey answers merge, the Finseo Attribution dashboard shows revenue per channel, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. You can compare AI search revenue with paid ads, organic search, and social over any date range.

Finseo matches on the order ID first, which is how Fairing, KnoCommerce, and Zigpoll answers attach. If the answer came from the storefront popup, the customer email is used as the merge key within a 90-day window. Orders without a matching answer wait as conversions.

No. This page covers checkout attribution via Custom Pixel, which is available today. The Shopify agent integration that lets Finseo optimize product titles, descriptions, and JSON-LD structured data through the Admin API is a separate integration page and is coming soon.
