Google Analytics
Connect Google Analytics (GA4) to see exactly how much traffic AI platforms send to your site, what those visitors do, and whether they convert.
Overview
What you get with the Google Analytics integration
Finseo connects to your GA4 property via OAuth and surfaces the AI referral traffic that GA4 hides behind generic source labels. You see ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot as distinct sources. You see which pages they land on, what they do, and which conversions they drive. All without changing your tracking script.

What you can do with Google Analytics and Finseo
Real ways Google Analytics customers use Finseo to track and grow AI search revenue.

See which AI engines drive sign-ups, demo requests, and purchases. Compare conversion rates across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini to understand where your audience converts best.
- 04
Revenue attribution

- 05
AI traffic trends over time
Track week over week and month over month growth in AI referrals. Spot which optimizations drive lift and which content goes viral on AI platforms.
Why it matters
Why Google Analytics customers need AI visibility tracking
AI search now drives more referral traffic to many websites than Bing, Yahoo, or Twitter combined. ChatGPT alone reaches over 800 million monthly active users. Yet GA4 misclassifies most AI referrals, lumping ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude under direct or unassigned. This makes AI traffic invisible to standard analytics workflows. Finseo unmasks these sources so you can measure ROI, allocate budget, and prove AEO impact to stakeholders.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Google Analytics
Answers to the most common questions about the Google Analytics integration.
Finseo applies a continuously updated set of referrer patterns, user agent signatures, and traffic fingerprints to identify visitors from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and other AI engines. The detection logic is updated weekly as AI platforms change how they pass referral data.
No. Finseo reads your existing GA4 data via the official Data API. You do not need to add tracking scripts, modify your gtag setup, or create custom dimensions. The integration is fully read only and never modifies your GA4 property.
GA4 classifies traffic by referrer URL and source. Most AI engines either pass no referrer, pass an inconsistent one, or use a referrer that GA4 categorizes as direct. Finseo applies pattern matching, fingerprinting, and known AI source lists to correctly attribute these visits.
Yes. Finseo reads your GA4 conversion events and ecommerce data, then breaks them down by AI source. You see sign-ups from ChatGPT, demo requests from Perplexity, and revenue from each AI engine separately. All of this works with your existing GA4 conversion setup.
Only GA4. Universal Analytics was sunset by Google in July 2023. If you are still on UA, migrate to GA4 first using the official Google Analytics setup assistant. Once on GA4, the Finseo connection takes 60 seconds.
Finseo backfills the last 90 days of GA4 data on initial connection. After that, data updates daily. Historical AI source attribution is recomputed using the latest detection patterns, so retroactive accuracy improves over time.
Yes. Each Finseo project can connect one GA4 property. If you manage multiple sites or brands, create a separate Finseo project per site and connect a different GA4 property to each. There is no limit on the number of projects.
No. Finseo only reads aggregated GA4 metrics (sessions, conversions, revenue by source). Personal data, IP addresses, user IDs, and individual session details are never accessed. All data is stored encrypted and is only visible to your Finseo project members.
